SN7448 BCD to 7-Segment Decoder Driver

The SN7448 converts a 4-bit BCD input into the pattern needed to drive a common-cathode 7-segment display, directly turning individual segments on or off to show digits 0–9.

7448 – How It Works

Internal logic maps each of the 10 BCD codes to the specific combination of segments (a through g) that forms that digit’s shape, and drives each segment output directly — no external current-limiting resistors are optional, they’re required per segment.

It only works with common-cathode displays — using it with a common-anode display inverts the segment logic and the digits won’t display correctly, so always check the display’s datasheet before wiring.
