CD4011 Quad 2-Input NAND Gate

The CD4011 is a CMOS 4000-series IC with four independent 2-input NAND gates — the CMOS counterpart to the TTL 7400, with a much wider supply voltage range.

4011 – How It Works

Being CMOS rather than TTL, it draws almost no current when its outputs are static, making it a far better choice than a 7400-series chip for anything battery-powered where standby power matters.

A single gate from this chip wired with a resistor and capacitor forms one of the most common simple square-wave oscillators in hobbyist circuits.

Because CMOS logic thresholds sit near the midpoint of the supply rail, its noise margin is generally wider than an equivalent TTL gate at the same voltage.
