The AN6350 (Panasonic/Matsushita) is a VTR cylinder (drum) servo control IC, regulating the precise rotational speed and phase of the video head drum needed for stable playback and recording.

AN6350 – How It Works

It compares the drum’s actual rotational speed and phase against a reference signal, then generates a correction signal to keep the drum motor precisely synchronized — critical for the video head to track the recorded tracks on tape correctly.

A VCR showing picture tearing, jitter, or a completely unstable image (rather than just noise or fading) is a classic symptom of a fault in the drum servo control stage rather than the video amplifier itself.
