TA7698 Deflection System for a Color Television

The TA7698 is a Toshiba deflection-system IC used in color television sets to generate and control the horizontal and vertical scanning signals that drive the CRT’s deflection yoke.

TA7698 – How It Works

It generates the timing and drive signals needed to sweep the electron beam across the screen in sync with the incoming video signal — combining horizontal oscillator, vertical oscillator, and drive stages that older TV designs otherwise needed as several separate chips.

It’s a common source of the classic “picture rolling” or “no vertical sync” faults in old CRT TVs, making it one of the first chips a technician checks when those specific symptoms appear.
