The 24C02 is a 2Kbit (256×8) serial EEPROM using the I²C interface, the smallest and most common capacity in the 24Cxx family, in a compact SOIC-8 SMD package.

24C02 – How It Works

Its small 256-byte capacity is more than enough for typical microcontroller uses like storing a device serial number, calibration constants, or a handful of user settings — and its I²C interface means it shares the same two bus wires as many other sensors and peripherals.

Its SMD package makes it well suited to compact, automated-assembly PCB designs, while the DIP-8 version of the same chip is easier to hand-solder into breadboard or perfboard projects.
