SN74139 Dual 2-to-4 Line Decoder/Demultiplexer

The SN74139 contains two independent 2-to-4 line decoder/demultiplexers — each takes a 2-bit binary address and activates exactly one of four active-low outputs.

74139 – How It Works

Each section also has its own enable input, so it can double as a 1-to-4 demultiplexer: feed a data signal into the enable pin, and the 2-bit address determines which one of the four outputs that data appears on.

Having two independent sections in one package means a single chip can often cover the decode needs of two separate small subsystems in the same design.
