TEA5570 RF/IF Circuit for AM/FM Radio

The TEA5570 is a combined RF/IF integrated circuit handling both AM and FM radio reception in one chip — mixer, oscillator, and detector for AM, plus IF amplification, limiting, and detection for FM.

TEA5570 – How It Works

For AM it performs the full front-end job (mixing the incoming signal down, amplifying, and detecting audio), while for FM it takes an already-mixed IF signal and handles the limiting/detection stage that recovers clean audio from a frequency-modulated carrier.

Handling both bands in one chip made it a cost-effective choice for classic dual-band radios, avoiding the need for two entirely separate front-end sections for AM and FM.
