SN7430 8-Input NAND Gate

The SN7430 is a single 8-input NAND gate in one package. The output is low only when all eight inputs are high; any low input forces the output high.

7430 – How It Works

Because it packs 8 inputs into a single gate, the 7430 is often used as a wide address/data decoder — it can detect the one specific combination where every bit in an 8-bit word is 1, in a single logic stage instead of cascading several smaller gates.

Only unused inputs need to be tied to a defined logic level (usually high, to avoid affecting the decode result) — leaving a TTL input floating can pick up noise and cause unreliable switching.
