AT22V10 Programmable Logic Device (PLD)

The AT22V10 (Atmel/Microchip) is a programmable logic device (PLD) IC, allowing a designer to implement custom combinational and sequential logic functions by programming the chip’s internal AND-OR array rather than wiring together many discrete logic gate chips.

AT22V10 – How It Works

Its 22 inputs feed a programmable AND-OR logic array that can be configured (via a dedicated PLD programmer) to implement a wide variety of logic equations across its 10 output macrocells, each of which can also be configured as a registered (flip-flop) or combinational output — replacing what might otherwise require several separate 74-series logic chips with a single programmable part.

When repairing equipment that uses a custom-programmed PLD like this one, the chip’s specific programmed logic pattern (fuse map) is unique to that design — a generic blank replacement will need to be reprogrammed with the original equipment’s exact logic file to function correctly.
