The LM392 (made in Japan) combines one operational amplifier and one voltage comparator in a single low-power package — two different but complementary analog functions in one chip.

LM392 – How It Works

The op-amp section handles linear amplification tasks while the comparator section handles threshold-detection tasks — a design that’s handy whenever a circuit needs exactly one of each function and wants to save the board space of two separate chips.
