UC3843 Current-Mode PWM Controller

The UC3843 is a classic current-mode PWM controller IC, one of the most widely-used and second-sourced switching power supply controller chips in electronics history.

UC3843 – How It Works

Like the SG3524 also in this catalog but using current-mode control (directly sensing and limiting the switching current cycle-by-cycle) rather than simple voltage-mode control, it offers better inherent short-circuit protection and load-transient response, requiring an external switching power transistor.

Its current-mode control technique, compared to the voltage-mode SG3524 also in this catalog, is what made it (and the entire UC384x family) an industry-standard choice for reliable, robust flyback power supply designs.
