74273 Octal D-Type Flip-Flop with Clear

The 74273 is an octal D-type flip-flop IC with a common asynchronous clear input, eight independent flip-flops capturing data simultaneously on the rising clock edge.

74273 – How It Works

Like the 74174 also in this catalog but with eight flip-flops instead of six and standard (not 3-state) outputs, it captures a full byte of data on the clock edge with a single common clear input able to reset all eight bits to zero simultaneously — a standard building block for byte-wide registers not needing bus tri-state capability.

Compared to the 3-state 74374 also in this catalog, this chip has standard outputs without high-impedance capability — the right choice for a simple byte-wide register that doesn’t need to share a bus.
