The LM741 is one of the most historically famous op-amp ICs ever made — a general-purpose, dual-supply operational amplifier that has been in continuous production since the late 1960s.

LM741 – How It Works

Unlike the single-supply LM324/LM358, it typically needs both a positive and negative supply rail (e.g. ±9V or ±15V) to swing its output both above and below ground, and includes built-in frequency compensation that makes it very stable and forgiving for beginners to work with.

It remains one of the most-taught op-amps in electronics courses worldwide, precisely because its predictable, well-documented behavior makes it an ideal teaching example even decades after newer designs surpassed it.
