Arduino Leonardo Board

The Arduino Leonardo board uses the ATmega32u4, which is the first Arduino microcontroller with USB communication built directly into the chip rather than handled by a second processor. That single design choice is what makes the Leonardo genuinely different from an Uno, not just a naming variant, and it opens up project categories an Uno cannot touch at all.

Because USB lives on the main chip, the Leonardo can present itself to a computer as a keyboard, mouse, or virtual serial port simultaneously — something an Uno’s secondary USB-to-serial chip cannot do. It runs at 16MHz with 32KB flash (4KB used by the bootloader), 2.5KB SRAM and 1KB EEPROM, and exposes 20 digital I/O pins, of which 7 support PWM and 12 double as analog inputs, more analog channels than an Uno offers in the same physical footprint.
