The UT12A voltage detector is a pocket-size non-contact AC voltage detector from UNI-T’s UT12 series, sensing live AC voltage from 90V to 1000V without touching the conductor.

UT12A voltage detector – How It Works

Bring the pen’s tip near a live wire, socket, or cable, and its built-in LED lights up whenever it detects AC voltage in its 90V-1000V range at 50/60Hz – a fast way to confirm a circuit is live before touching it. It runs on 2 AAA batteries and includes a low-battery indicator so it warns you before it stops working reliably.

As the base model in the UT12 family (UT12B adds a buzzer, UT12C adds vibration), this variant relies on LED indication alone – worth knowing before assuming it will beep like a more advanced sibling model.
