UT890D+ digital multimeter – How It Works

Its LIVE function identifies which wire is carrying voltage without needing to trace both conductors back to the panel, a genuinely useful safety check its UT890C sibling doesn’t offer. High-voltage protection and automatic fuse-blown detection add extra safeguards for anyone testing on real electrical panels rather than bench electronics.

It keeps the same 6000-count True RMS display, capacitance measurement up to 100mF, and acousto-optic NCV/continuity alerts as the C model, so the upgrade is purely additive.

Getting Accurate Readings

Before taking any measurement, confirm the test leads sit in the correct input jacks for the function selected, because leaving a lead in the current jack while measuring voltage is the single most common way a meter’s internal fuse gets blown. Start on the highest range when the expected value is unknown, then step down until the display shows useful resolution.

Keep the probe tips clean and check the leads for cracked insulation regularly, since a damaged lead is both a safety risk and a source of unstable readings.
