UT373 mini tachometer – How It Works

It works the same way as the UT371/UT372 – aim the laser at reflective tape on a rotating shaft to read RPM without contact – but in a smaller form factor built for one-handed use in tight spaces. A rotating speed/count mode switch lets you toggle between instantaneous RPM and a cumulative rotation tally on the same device.

Backlit display and MAX/MIN/data hold modes carry over from the larger models, so the smaller size doesn’t come at the cost of the core measurement features.

Speed Measurement Notes

For optical measurement, fit a reflective marker to the rotating part and keep the beam perpendicular to it, because an angled beam can miss the marker on each revolution and halve the displayed reading. One clean marker per revolution is what produces a trustworthy figure.
