UT261B phase sequence indicator – How It Works

Clip its probes onto a 3-phase system and it reads the phase sequence at 15-400Hz, confirming the wiring order is correct before you energize a motor – getting this wrong can spin a motor backward and damage connected equipment. Its motor rotation indication via LED display is the key addition over the UT261A, which sticks to phase-sequence checking alone on an LCD screen.

The extra capability comes at the cost of needing a 9V battery, unlike the UT261A’s battery-free design – a real trade-off worth knowing if you specifically want a self-powered tester.
