UT685B TDR cable tester – How It Works

TDR (time-domain reflectometry) sends a signal down the cable and measures how long it takes to reflect back from a break or the cable’s end, giving length readings accurate to +/-4% or 0.6m across UTP, FTP, SSTP, and coaxial cable types. Its PoE detection identifies which standard (802.3AF, 802.3AT, or 802.3BT) is present on a live network line before you connect equipment that could be damaged by the wrong power class.

Beyond length and PoE, it runs continuity, port flashing, line sequence, anti-interference, and ping network-speed tests, ships as a kit with the UT683R receiver, and includes an LED flashlight for working in dim cabinets or under desks.
