The UT202 clamp meter is UNI-T’s entry-level True RMS clamp meter, covering AC current up to 400A and resistance up to 20MOhm with a jaw-clamp design for live-circuit current reading.

UT202 clamp meter – How It Works

Clamp its jaw around a single conductor and it reads AC current directly without breaking the circuit to insert an in-line meter, the core advantage of a clamp design over a standard multimeter. Beyond current, it covers AC/DC voltage, resistance, capacitance up to 100uF, frequency, diode, and continuity, with an included point-contact temperature probe useful for HVAC work.

As UNI-T’s entry point into the clamp meter range, it’s a practical choice for residential and light commercial power wire measurement without the extra capacitance and frequency headroom of its higher UT202A+ sibling.

Getting Accurate Readings

Before taking any measurement, confirm the test leads sit in the correct input jacks for the function selected, because leaving a lead in the current jack while measuring voltage is the single most common way a meter’s internal fuse gets blown. Start on the highest range when the expected value is unknown, then step down until the display shows useful resolution.

Keep the probe tips clean and check the leads for cracked insulation regularly, since a damaged lead is both a safety risk and a source of unstable readings. Replace the battery as soon as the low-battery indicator appears, because a weak cell can quietly skew resistance and continuity results well before the meter shuts down completely.
