Photocell Switch 15A – How It Works

The photoresistor’s resistance rises as ambient light falls, and once it crosses a built-in threshold the internal relay energizes to close the circuit feeding the light fixture; as daylight returns, the resistance drops back and the relay releases. Because the whole unit is rated to switch 220V mains directly at up to 15A, it’s sized for real fixtures like street lamps, garden lights or security floodlights rather than low-voltage LED strips alone. This is a purely analog, self-contained device — no digital logic or code is involved, which makes it dead simple to install but also means the on/off threshold can’t be fine-tuned in software.
