This is a 140°C thermal switch, a temperature-activated mechanical switch with no external power required to operate.

How It Works

Inside, a bimetallic disc (two metals with different thermal expansion rates bonded together) flexes and snaps between two shapes as its temperature crosses the 140°C threshold, mechanically opening or closing the electrical contact — this component is normally closed (NC) — the internal contact stays closed (conducting) under normal conditions, and opens (cutting the circuit) once the sensed temperature rises above 140°C, making it a fail-safe cutoff that interrupts power to protect equipment from overheating.
