The PWM DC Dimmer Module 30A controls brightness or speed by rapidly switching full DC voltage on and off many times per second rather than dropping voltage linearly, which is why it stays cool and efficient even at high power compared to older linear dimming approaches.

PWM Dimmer 30A – How It Works

A rotary knob adjusts the PWM duty cycle continuously from roughly 0-3% up to 100%, and because the output is either fully on or fully off at any instant, switching losses in the dimmer itself stay low even while handling up to 30A continuous current — delivering up to 360W at 12V input or 720W at 24V input. This same switching principle works equally well for dimming LED strips and controlling DC motor speed, since both respond to average power delivered rather than needing a true analog voltage level. Because PWM switching happens at an audible-adjacent frequency on some units, a very slight electrical hum from the load itself is normal and not a sign of a fault.

Because the knob adjusts duty cycle rather than voltage directly, a motor at low settings may stall under load even though it spins freely with nothing attached, which is normal PWM behavior rather than a fault.
