The 2N5089 transistor is an NPN silicon transistor designed for low-noise, high-gain small-signal amplification, with a hFE of several hundred at low collector currents from 1µA to 50mA.

How It Works

The 2N5089 transistor is specifically characterized and selected for two things that matter most in a sensitive front-end amplifier: low intrinsic noise and very high current gain, holding useful hFE even at extremely small collector currents down to 1 microamp.
