The P8035 (Intel) is a ROMless 8-bit microcontroller from the classic MCS-48 family, requiring external program memory since it has no internal ROM.

P8035 – How It Works

Like the M80C39 also in this catalog, it shares the same MCS-48 core architecture and instruction set as the mask-ROM 8048 but connects to an external EPROM or ROM chip for its program storage — a flexible option for development and low-volume production where committing to a fixed on-chip mask ROM wasn’t economical.

Being ROMless, it always needs a companion EPROM/ROM chip connected externally to hold its program — a design that offers flexibility but requires more board space and components than a mask-ROM equivalent.
