MC10124 Quad TTL-to-MECL Translator (Motorola)

The MC10124 (Motorola) is a quad TTL-to-MECL translator IC, converting standard TTL logic signals into MECL (Motorola Emitter-Coupled Logic) 10,000-series compatible signals.

MC10124 – How It Works

Each of its four channels converts a TTL-level input signal into complementary open-emitter MECL outputs, letting it work as either an inverting/non-inverting translator or a differential line driver — necessary because MECL logic uses fundamentally different voltage levels and signaling than standard TTL/CMOS logic families.

Together with the MC10125 also in this catalog (which handles the reverse MECL-to-TTL direction), this pair of translators formed the standard interface bridge for connecting MECL high-speed logic sections to conventional TTL circuitry.
