L9110S Driver – How It Works

The board uses two L9110 half-bridge driver chips (or a combined L9110S dual-package) to independently control the speed and direction of two small DC motors from simple digital or PWM control signals, functioning similarly to a miniaturized L298N but scaled down for lighter loads. Each channel handles up to 800mA, which comfortably covers small TT gear motors and similar toy-grade motors used in beginner robot car kits, though it isn’t intended for larger, higher-current motors that would exceed its rating. Built-in flyback diodes protect the driver chip from the voltage spikes generated each time a motor coil switches off, and at roughly 3cm x 2cm the board is small enough to tuck into tight spaces on a compact robot chassis where a full-size L298N module wouldn’t physically fit.
