75138 Quadruple Bus Transceiver (TI, RS-232-Class)

The 75138 (Texas Instruments, SN75138) is a quadruple bus transceiver IC, combining four line drivers and receivers with a strobe control that puts all drivers into high-impedance state without affecting receiver operation.

SN75138 – How It Works

Designed for operation from a single 5V supply, it includes provisions to minimize data bus loading when the power supply voltage is zero (important for hot-swappable or partially-powered bus systems), a common building block in classic RS-232-class serial communication and bus interface circuits.

It combines both driver and receiver roles in one chip like the DS14185 also in this catalog, making it a space-efficient choice for building complete bidirectional serial bus interfaces.
