SN74242 Quad Bus Transceiver (Inverting)

The SN74242 is a quad bus transceiver with inverting outputs, arranged as two independent 2-line to 2-line bidirectional buses, each with its own direction control.

74242 – How It Works

Unlike the 74245 (a single 8-bit bidirectional bus in this catalog), it’s organized as two smaller, independent 2-bit bidirectional channels — useful when a design needs two separate small buses to talk in both directions rather than one wide one.

Its two independent channels mean a single chip can sometimes replace what would otherwise need two smaller single-channel transceiver parts in a design.
