Z80 PIO – How It Works

Like the Z8420APS, each of its two 8-bit ports can be independently configured for input, output, or bidirectional/bit-control modes with built-in handshaking, forming a standard building block for connecting parallel peripherals (printers, keyboards, switches) to classic Z80-based computer systems.
