The TMS9903 (Texas Instruments) is an asynchronous communications controller IC, providing UART-style serial communication capability for TI 9900-family (TMS9900/TMS9995) microprocessor systems.

TMS9903 – How It Works

Interfacing directly with the TI 9900 architecture’s bus, it handles the serialization/deserialization, baud-rate generation, and framing needed for asynchronous serial communication — the TI 9900-family equivalent of the UART/USART support chips found in other classic microprocessor architectures.

It complements the TMS9900/TMS9995 processors and TIM9904 clock generator also in this catalog to form a complete TI 9900-family system with serial communication capability.
