The P87C52SBPN (NXP) is an 8051-family microcontroller with UV-erasable EPROM program memory and extended features beyond the classic base 8051, used in embedded control applications.

87C52 – How It Works

Like other members of the extended 8051 family, it includes the classic 8051 instruction set and core peripherals (timers, serial port, interrupt system) plus additional RAM and I/O capability, letting developers reprogram the same physical chip repeatedly during development via UV erasure.

The 8051 architecture was so widely licensed that many manufacturers (NXP/Philips, Intel, Atmel, and others) produced their own compatible variants — this NXP part follows the same core instruction set as the original Intel design.
