HCPL2730 Dual-Channel Low-Input-Current High-Gain Optocoupler

The HCPL2730 is a dual-channel, low-input-current, high-gain optocoupler, using a split-Darlington photodetector to achieve a very high 2000% current transfer ratio from just 0.5mA of input current.

HCPL2730 – How It Works

Its split-Darlington photodetector design allows lower output saturation voltage and higher switching speed than a conventional Darlington phototransistor optocoupler, while its very low required input current makes it well-suited to interfacing with low-drive-current logic families like CMOS or RS-232C.

Its exceptionally low input current requirement is what sets it apart from a general-purpose optocoupler like the PC817 also in this catalog, making it the right choice when the driving logic circuit can only supply a very small amount of current.
