H11AA1 Bidirectional AC-Input Optocoupler

The H11AA1 (Vishay) is a bidirectional AC-input optocoupler, using two inverse-parallel infrared LEDs coupled to a single phototransistor, designed specifically to detect or monitor AC signals.

H11AA1 – How It Works

Unlike a standard single-LED optocoupler (like the PC817 also in this catalog) which only responds to current in one direction, its two inverse-parallel LEDs let it respond to AC input signals of either polarity, making it a natural fit for detecting AC line voltage presence or telephone ring signals without needing an external rectifier bridge.
