The 74251 is an 8-input analog/digital multiplexer IC with 3-state complementary outputs, selecting one of eight data inputs based on a 3-bit binary address.

74251 – How It Works

Unlike the ADG508 analog multiplexer also in this catalog, it works with digital logic signals rather than raw analog voltages, providing both true and complementary (inverted) 3-state outputs, along with a strobe/enable input — a standard building block for selecting one of several digital data sources onto a shared bus.

While the ADG508 also in this catalog switches raw analog voltages, this chip is a digital logic multiplexer — always confirm which signal type (analog or digital) a design actually needs before choosing between them.
