The 74160 is a synchronous BCD (decade, 0-9) counter IC with a direct (asynchronous) reset input, the BCD counterpart to the binary 74161 also in this catalog.

74160 – How It Works

All four output bits change synchronously together on the rising clock edge as it counts through the decimal digits 0-9 before rolling over, and the direct reset input immediately clears the count to zero regardless of the clock state — a standard building block for decimal counting and display driving.

It follows the same asynchronous-reset-vs-synchronous-reset distinction found between the 74161/74163 pair also in this catalog — the 74162 is the synchronous-reset BCD equivalent to this chip.
