The Soldering Paste Flux is a paste soldering flux, supplied in a standard container container, used to clean oxidation from metal surfaces immediately before soldering so solder flows and bonds properly.

Soldering Paste Flux – How It Works

Metal surfaces exposed to air, even briefly, develop a thin oxide layer that prevents molten solder from wetting and bonding to the base metal properly, resulting in dull, weak or unreliable joints; flux is a mildly acidic chemical that dissolves this oxide layer on contact and continues protecting the cleaned surface from re-oxidizing while the joint is heated, giving the solder a clean metal surface to bond to. Applied as a paste directly to the joint area before or during soldering, this flux is especially useful for difficult-to-solder surfaces, older components with heavily oxidized leads, or repair work on joints that didn’t take cleanly the first time, situations where the flux already built into standard rosin-core solder wire isn’t quite enough on its own. Because flux residue left on a board can attract dust or, with certain flux types, cause slow corrosion over time, cleaning the board with isopropyl alcohol after soldering is good practice unless the flux is specifically labeled no-clean.
