Z84C30 NMOS/CMOS Z80 CTC Counter/Timer Circuit (Zilog)

The Z84C30 (Zilog) is an NMOS/CMOS Z80 CTC Counter/Timer Circuit, a CMOS-technology successor to the Z8430AB1 also in this catalog with the same four-channel counter/timer function.

Z84C30 – How It Works

Like the Z8430AB1, each of its four channels has a readable down-counter with a selectable 16 or 256 prescaler that auto-reloads at zero count, with three channels providing zero-count/timeout outputs capable of directly driving Darlington transistors, and standard Z80-family daisy-chain interrupt support — the CMOS versions offer clock speeds up to 10MHz.

Compared to the NMOS-only Z8430AB1 also in this catalog, its CMOS technology offers lower power consumption and higher clock speeds, making it the preferred choice for newer or power-sensitive Z80-based designs.
