Using 3-wire or simple 2-wire measurement methods, it drives a small test current through ground rods or a grounding system and reads the resulting resistance – a low reading confirms a good ground path for lightning protection and electrical safety systems, while a high reading signals a grounding problem worth investigating. Its single 0-20 ohm range covers the resistance most standard grounding systems fall within.

Safe Testing Practice

Always confirm the circuit is fully de-energized and isolated before applying a test voltage, because insulation testers deliberately output high voltage and connecting one to a live circuit is dangerous to both the operator and the instrument. Discharge the tested equipment afterwards, since cables and windings can hold a charge long enough to deliver a shock minutes later.

Disconnect sensitive electronics from the circuit before testing, as the applied test voltage can damage semiconductors and surge protection devices that were never designed to see it. Record readings alongside ambient temperature and humidity, because insulation resistance varies significantly with both and a trend over time tells far more than a single absolute number.

ممارسات اختبار آمنة
