The UT381A illuminance meter is UNI-T’s wide-range light meter, measuring up to 400,000 lux with Bluetooth app connectivity and a rotatable split probe for hard-to-reach fixtures.

UT381A illuminance meter – How It Works

Its probe can be used integrated or split apart on a cable, and rotates to reach awkward angles on street lights, office ceilings, or commercial fixtures without contorting the whole meter body. A color correction coefficient adjusts for different light source types, since accuracy tightens to plus/minus 3% under a standard 2856K calibration source but widens to plus/minus 6% under other light types without that correction applied.

Bluetooth streams readings to a phone or PC app, and 99-set data logging lets you record a survey across multiple rooms or fixtures rather than reading and writing each value by hand.

Measuring Light Levels

Hold the sensor flat and facing the light source in the plane where the measurement actually matters, usually the working surface, because tilting the sensor changes the reading substantially. Keep your own shadow and any reflective clothing out of the measurement area, as both influence the value more than most users expect.

Let the sensor settle for a few seconds after a large change in light level, and keep the diffuser cap clean, since dust and fingerprints on it scatter light and pull readings low. When comparing measurements over time, take them at the same points and under the same conditions so the numbers are genuinely comparable.
