SAB8287 Octal Bus Transceiver, High-Impedance Output (Siemens)

The SAB8287 (Siemens) is an octal bus transceiver IC with high-impedance outputs, a second-source equivalent to the Intel 8287, used for bidirectional data bus buffering in classic microprocessor systems.

SAB8287 – How It Works

Like the P8216 also in this catalog but handling 8 bits instead of 4, it buffers and drives the data bus between a microprocessor and memory/peripheral devices, with high-impedance (tri-state) outputs allowing multiple devices to share the same bus without conflict.

As a genuine Intel 8287 second source, it can be treated as fully pin- and function-compatible with the original Intel part in classic 8-bit microprocessor system designs.
