P8216 4-Bit Parallel Bidirectional Bus Driver (Intel)

The P8216 (Intel) is a 4-bit parallel bidirectional bus driver IC, allowing data to flow in either direction across a bus under external direction control.

P8216 – How It Works

It inverts data as it passes through and provides higher drive current than the microprocessor’s own bus pins can typically supply, commonly used in classic 8080/8085-based microcomputer systems to buffer and drive the data bus between the CPU and memory/peripheral devices sharing that bus.

It shares the same fundamental bus-buffering role as the 74125 tri-state buffer also in this catalog, but specifically designed for the classic 8080/8085 microprocessor data bus environment with bidirectional inverting behavior.
