The LED Dimmer SCR 5000W AC 220V is an SCR (thyristor) based AC power regulator that lets a single knob smoothly adjust the effective voltage delivered to a connected load, up to 5000W of resistive power.

SCR LED Dimmer 5000W – How It Works

Rather than simply switching a load fully on or off, the module uses a bidirectional SCR to chop each AC half-cycle at a controllable point, known as phase-angle control, so the load only receives power for part of every cycle. Turning the onboard potentiometer changes the firing angle of the SCR, which continuously varies the effective RMS voltage reaching the load from near zero up to close to full mains voltage, giving smooth control rather than discrete steps. This makes the module equally useful as a lamp dimmer, a heating-element temperature control, or a universal AC motor speed controller (such as for a fan or drill), since all three respond to reduced RMS voltage in a similar way, though motors with a starting-torque requirement may need a minimum setting to keep spinning at low speed.
