The UT682D wire tracker is a transmitter/receiver cable tracing kit from UNI-T, tracking switchboard wiring up to 100m, telephone lines up to 3000m, and shielded/unshielded cables up to 320m.

UT682D wire tracker – How It Works

Clip the transmitter onto a wire and sweep the receiver along the cable run – a signal-strength indicator light and audio tone guide you to the exact wire among a bundle, even on a live switchboard. Beyond tracing, it runs open/short circuit tests, checks telephone-line polarity, and reads DC voltage from +/-5V to 52V, while 9 LEDs handle wire alignment and line-sequence checks for RJ11/RJ45 cables.

Both transmitter and receiver run on 9V batteries, with the transmitter drawing a maximum of 25mA and the receiver under 40mA – enough for extended field sessions without frequent battery swaps.

Scanning Technique

Move the scanner slowly and in a consistent straight line, because sweeping too quickly is the most common reason a detector misses a target it was perfectly capable of finding. Scan the same area from two perpendicular directions to confirm a hit before drilling or cutting anything.

Be aware that damp material, foil-backed insulation, and dense reinforcement can all affect what the instrument reports, so treat every detection as a strong indication rather than a guarantee. Recalibrate on a clear section of the same surface whenever the readings start behaving inconsistently, as the instrument references that baseline while scanning.

أسلوب المسح

حرك الجهاز ببطء وفي خط مستقيم ثابت، لأن المسح السريع أشهر سبب لفوات هدف كان الجهاز قادر تمامًا يلاقيه. امسح نفس المساحة من اتجاهين متعامدين عشان تأكد النتيجة قبل ما تخرم أو تقص أي حاجة.
