The UT501B insulation tester from UNI-T tests electrical insulation at 250V, 500V, or 1000V, measuring resistance from near-zero up to 5.5GΩ for verifying cable and equipment insulation integrity.

How It Works

The UT501B splits its range into 0.00-99.9MΩ (±3%+5) and 100MΩ-5.5GΩ (±5%+5) for both coarse and fine insulation checks, plus a dedicated low-resistance mode covering 0.01-200Ω (±2%+3) for continuity-style testing. It adds Polarization Index (PI) and Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR) functions for assessing insulation aging in motors and transformers, and can also measure AC voltage from 30V to 600V. Automatic voltage release after a test, a backlit display, and a warning light for hazardous residual voltage round out its safety features, all within a CAT III 600V rating.

Safe Testing Practice

Always confirm the circuit is fully de-energized and isolated before applying a test voltage, because insulation testers deliberately output high voltage and connecting one to a live circuit is dangerous to both the operator and the instrument. Discharge the tested equipment afterwards, since cables and windings can hold a charge long enough to deliver a shock minutes later.

Disconnect sensitive electronics from the circuit before testing, as the applied test voltage can damage semiconductors and surge protection devices that were never designed to see it. Record readings alongside ambient temperature and humidity, because insulation resistance varies significantly with both and a trend over time tells far more than a single absolute number.

ممارسات اختبار آمنة
