How It Works

The 10mW laser output covers fiber lengths of 8-10km in continuous or pulse emitting mode, letting the operator trace a red light source through the fiber to visually spot where a break or fault interrupts transmission. Four blue LEDs show battery status, and the unit is USB rechargeable with roughly 7 hours of runtime per charge. Fiber Handling Notes

Clean the connector end-face before every single measurement, because a particle of dust far too small to see can introduce enough loss to make a perfectly good link appear faulty. Dedicated fiber cleaning tools exist precisely because this one step causes most field measurement errors.

Never look directly into a fiber end or an active source output, as the light involved is invisible and can damage eyesight. Record a baseline measurement when a link is first commissioned, since comparing later readings against that baseline is far more informative than judging a single absolute figure on its own.
