UT121B smart multimeter – How It Works

True RMS measurement keeps voltage and current readings accurate even on the distorted, non-sinusoidal waveforms common around dimmers and variable-speed motors, unlike a basic averaging multimeter. Its NCV mode and single-probe live/neutral check both alert with a buzzer, letting you sense a live wire or identify a hot conductor before ever touching a probe to it.

Getting Accurate Readings

Before taking any measurement, confirm the test leads sit in the correct input jacks for the function selected, because leaving a lead in the current jack while measuring voltage is the single most common way a meter’s internal fuse gets blown. Start on the highest range when the expected value is unknown, then step down until the display shows useful resolution.

Keep the probe tips clean and check the leads for cracked insulation regularly, since a damaged lead is both a safety risk and a source of unstable readings. Replace the battery as soon as the low-battery indicator appears, because a weak cell can quietly skew resistance and continuity results well before the meter shuts down completely.
