LA78040 Vertical Output IC — CRT Vertical Deflection Driver

The LA78040 vertical output IC is a Sanyo vertical-deflection output stage for small and medium CRT displays, built to work together with a bus-controlled chroma/sync processor such as Sanyo’s LA768x or LA769xx series.

How It Works

The LA78040 receives a sawtooth waveform directly from the bus-control signal-processing IC and amplifies it to drive the vertical deflection yoke, including its DC component, producing a peak-to-peak deflection current of up to 1.8 A — enough for small-to-medium CRT screens. A built-in pump-up circuit recycles part of the flyback energy back into the supply rail to cut power dissipation, and an internal thermal protection circuit shuts the output down if the chip overheats under sustained load.
