CH341A Programmer Module

The CH341A Programmer Module is a USB-based tool for reading, writing and erasing 24xx-series EEPROM and 25xx-series SPI flash chips directly, most commonly used to reflash BIOS chips, router firmware chips, or other small SOP8/SOP16 memory ICs that have no other way to be reprogrammed.

CH341A – How It Works

Communication runs over the CH341A USB chip at USB 1.1 speed, with typical erase/program speeds around 2-3Mbit per minute — fast enough for the small chips it targets, which rarely exceed a few megabits. A ZIF (zero-insertion-force) socket makes inserting and removing delicate SOP8/SOP16 chips easy without bending pins, and a jumper selects between 3.3V and 5V chip power depending on what the target chip needs; some chips require an additional 1.8V adapter accessory since the board’s onboard regulator doesn’t go that low by default. Because the CH341A chip also speaks UART, I2C and SPI more generally, some users repurpose the same hardware as a basic multi-protocol adapter beyond pure chip programming.
