BTA16-600B triac

The BTA16-600B triac is a 16A, 600V triac in a TO-220AB insulated package for bidirectional AC switching, used in static relays, heating control, motor starting, and light dimming.

How It Works

The BTA16-600B triac is a four-quadrant planar passivated triac, meaning it can be triggered into conduction regardless of the polarity combination of its main terminal voltage and gate current — giving circuit designers flexibility in how they drive it. Once triggered by a gate current below 50mA, it conducts up to 16A with a low on-state voltage (under 1.55V at 22.5A), then automatically turns off when the AC current crosses zero. Its TO-220AB package is electrically insulated, so the metal tab can be bolted to a heatsink without needing a separate insulating pad.
